WELCOME TO THE
SALESIAN YOUTH PROGRAMS OF CORNWALL
Our History
In the spring of 2011, Bishop Paul Andre Durocher invited 4 Salesian Sisters with the invitation “Let your Charism be radiant within our diocese!” Shortly after arriving they opened the Salesian Youth Centre geared to help the Youth in the Community by playing games, signing and eating! That same year, they held a summer program which only had about 10 children.
In the following years, the sisters held the Salesian Youth Centre, the Salesian Sister's Summer Camp, as well as some Salesian Leadership Retreats (SLR). They were able to touch the lives and souls of many children throughout the years. It brought great joy to the sisters to see the children running, jumping, playing, singing, etc. In the words of St John Bosco “Run, jump, play and make noise… but do not sin."
In the fall of 2022, the sisters were informed that their house would close the following year as a result of their aging group. Without telling the children or the youth leaders, they made that year the best one because they knew that it was going to be the last Salesian Youth Centre, Salesian Youth Summer Camp, and Salesian Leadership Retreat.
In the spring of 2023, a couple of youth leaders caught wind that the sisters were leaving and decided to take action! If they could not keep the sisters in Cornwall at least they could keep the programs. In that same fall, the youth centre continued under the name FUN Fridays!
